Strong in Ahead: leaning toward what comes next
Growing in Talents: trusting what I have learned and can do

You arrive at the door of the new chapter with a full toolbox in your hand, apologizing for coming empty-handed. You are ready for a new chapter and still growing.

You will recognize this

At the first class you introduce yourself as “just a beginner.” Someone younger asks for advice, and you say you would not know. You sign up for something new and fail to mention that you spent thirty years doing something very much like it.

You are still signing up at seventy and beyond: the class, the choir, the trip nobody expected you to take. Offered something new, you lean toward it and mean it. That willingness is a stance, not a mood, and no class can teach it.

This season

The work used to be assigned, and the skills were used without being named. Now you are choosing your own projects, and that can make you feel like a beginner at everything. You are not. Forty years of patience, judgment and know-how come with you into every new room.
