Strong in Ahead: leaning toward what comes next
Growing in Story: making sense of the life I have lived

You buy a fresh notebook for every new beginning, and the old one in the desk drawer, with the hard years in it, stays shut. You lean toward what is new, with a fresh notebook and a curious heart.

You will recognize this

You are full of what is next: the brochures, the plans, the new class. Someone mentions an old year, and you change the subject to something ahead. You open the drawer for everything except that notebook. You are not running from the past. You are just always facing forward.

You sign up for the class, the trip, the new town, at an age when others are settling in. When life offers something new, you lean toward it. Your curiosity gives you the sure sense that more chapters are coming.

This season

Moving forward was survival: a new job after the layoff, a new town after the divorce, a new start after a loss. It worked. Now you have time, and some of the people in that old notebook are gone. A short, careful look back can carry forward what those years taught you.
