The Unclenched Hand

Strong in Release: letting go of what I cannot control
Growing in Ease: being at home in my body and my days

You can set the heavy bag down and still feel the mark of the strap on your shoulder for days. You have made peace with nearly everything, and people calm down around you.

You will recognize this

In the afternoon you are tired and keep going, because there is no reason not to. At night you finally lie down and notice the ache that was there all day. Someone asks how you are, and you say “fine” before checking.

You have stopped arguing with the weather, the news, the grown children and the past. People bring you their trouble because you can hear it without flinching. You can sit with an ache without spinning dread around it, and that calm is yours to use.

This season

Your body carried you through work, children, caregiving and hard years. Now it speaks up: a slower morning, a heavier afternoon, an ache that stays. You meet those changes with grace. But grace is not the same as attention.
